The Rain by W. H. Davies is a beautiful poem telling metaphorically about the nature and the nature of society's wealthiest and the poor people.
W. H. Davies felt himself suffering from the poverty and he had to become a Tramp in order to run his financial affairs.
The Rain describes the attitude of the rich towards the poor. Rain is actually taken as the natural resource which is enjoyed more by the rich than the poor. The rich of the society give alms (the rain water) to the poor coin after coin.
Sweet Noise here, for me, has two meanings: when we drop coins in a pot, it produces a sound, like wise when the rain falls on the leaves it also creates a noise. The Poet is amused by this division of wealth. He is overjoyed when he listens to this particular sound.
Abundance of rich leaves on top indicates that society is controlled by the rich as they are large in number.
They get direct benefit and then according to their own will they pass this to the poor.
Rain is not at all a source of pleasure for the person who goes for daily wages, but he must be glad that the rain is not going to last permanently. The sun will also come out after the rain and it will then brighten the whole scene.
